The Orpheum Theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was also included in the NRHP listing of the New Orleans Lower Central Business District in 1991. The theater was severely damaged in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina and the associated levee failure floodwaters [6] [7] and was sold to a Dallas businessman. [4]
From that emerged their slightly tweaked name of the production, “The Nutcracker’s Mustache.” Their performance skills are not a fluke, though. All of the Jansons are trained ballet dancers.
In 2011 it hosted the New Orleans Fringe Festival. [3] The Marigny Opera House was officially opened on January 2, 2012. It is supported by the Marigny Opera House Foundation, a non-profit organization. [4] The Marigny is used as a performance venue for dance, theatre, opera, jazz, and classical music performances. [5]
