XM14 Gun Pod. A pod developed for both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, fitted with a single M3.50 caliber machine gun. Avionics from the EA-6B were modified to fit into the gun bay and wing tip pods of the Growler. The EA-18G may carry an additional five jamming pods on under wing pylons. [7] The system is being considered for modification to serve on unmanned aerial vehicles. The Growler is part of the same family of aircraft as the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
These sponsons were also fitted with aircraft-style hardpoints that allowed the mounting of XM159B/XM159C 19-tube 2.75"-rocket launchers or M18/M18A1 7.62×51mm gun pods. XM41/M41 A defensive armament subsystem, the M41 provides a mount for an M60D 7.62×51mm machine gun on the rear cargo ramp of the CH-47 helicopter.
The right side cockpit was replaced with a radar operator's position without flight controls. A long radar pod, resembling a sausage and irreverently known as a "long dong", was attached to the underside of the wing center section, below the six .50 cal (12.7mm) machine guns and with its dish in front of the propellers to prevent interference.
