Flemington Speedway was created as a mid-nineteenth century fairgrounds horse track hosting horse racing events during the Hunterdon County 4-H Agricultural Fair starting in 1848. [1] It was a half mile, four-cornered dirt oval.

In 1982 and 1983, Brenn claimed Flemington's modified titles, and ultimately totaled 59 modified triumphs on the dirt surface. Chester Leroy Gardner (March 16, 1898 – September 3, 1938) was an American racing driver, named by promoters as "The Grand Old Man of Auto Racing." [1]He was killed in an accident during a time trial at the Flemington Fair Speedway when he swerved to avoid a child that had run onto the racetrack.
