The Serpentine-Jarrahdale Road District was established on August 8, 1913 with the merger of the Serpentine Road District (1894) and the Jarrahdale Road District (1902). [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] On July 1, 1961, it became a Shire following the passage of the Local Government Act 1960 , which reformed all remaining road districts into shires.

The nature reserve is located in the west of the locality of Mardella, in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. It consists of three separate sections, with the two eastern ones separated by the narrow Lowlands Road corridor while the third section is approximately 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) further west, centered around Hymus Swamp. Karrakup is a locality southeast of Perth, Western Australia, within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. The name derives from the Noongar name for the red-tailed black cockatoo and was adopted as a suburb name in 1997. [2] Karrakup extends east from the town of Byford, along the ridge hill shelf and up over the Darling Scarp.
Rob Coales (born 1975/1976) is an Australian politician and the current president of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale since winning a landslide election victory in 2023, becoming the Shire's first directly-elected leader.
