TCH is a chemotherapy regimen consisting of Taxotere (docetaxel), carboplatin and Herceptin (trastuzumab), which is used to treat breast cancer. References [ edit ]
Carboplatin, sold under the brand name Paraplatin among others, is a chemotherapy medication used to treat a number of forms of cancer. [3] This includes ovarian cancer , lung cancer , head and neck cancer , brain cancer , and neuroblastoma . [ 3 ]
In this form of chemotherapy, commonly used drugs include cisplatin, oxaliplatin, and carboplatin, but several have been proposed or are under development. [1] Addition of platinum-based chemotherapy drugs to chemoradiation in women with early cervical cancer seems to improve survival and reduce risk of recurrence. [2]
Carboplatin is also provided intravenously and also kills cells by disrupting the cell's DNA. Bone marrow suppression is the dose-limiting toxicity of carboplatin. Carboplatin is much less damaging to kidneys compared to cisplatin and is used as an alternative to cisplatin for patients with preexisting kidney failure. [16] Taxanes
Since patients often do not know how severe their conditions are, nurses were originally supposed to review a patient's chart and determine whether a particular condition was present in order to calculate the index. Subsequent studies have adapted the comorbidity index into a questionnaire for patients.
Carboplatin is typically given in combination with either paclitaxel or docetaxel; the typical combination is carboplatin with paclitaxel. [28] [31] Carboplatin is superior to cisplatin in that it is less toxic and has fewer side effects, generally allowing for an improved quality of life in comparison, though both are similarly effective. [31]
The mechanism of antineoplastic action for lobaplatin has not been studied in great detail. The results of current mechanistic studies suggest that lobaplatin is a DNA cross linking antineoplastic agent and has a similar platinum-induced cytotoxicity mechanism to other platin metallodrugs (i.e., cisplatin and oxaliplatin).
The scope of practice for a nurse practitioner includes the range of skills, procedures, and processes for which the individual has been educated, trained, and credentialed to perform. [2] Scope of practice for nurse practitioners is defined at four levels: 1) professional, 2) state, 3) institutional, and 4) self-determined. [3]
