Clarence Alfred Gilyard Jr. [1] (December 24, 1955 – November 23, 2022 [2]) was an American actor.He was best known to television audiences for his roles as private investigator Conrad McMasters on the legal drama series Matlock (1986–95) and Texas Ranger Jimmy Trivette on Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001).
In 1985, he appeared in the TV film Badge of the Assassin. In early 1986, while providing the voice of Roadblock, he received a phone call from producers Fred Silverman and Dean Hargrove . He was their first choice to play Matlock's private investigator Tyler Hudson on the Matlock series opposite TV veteran Andy Griffith .
