  2. BD Stinger vs Petzl Dart - Mountain Project

    www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/119849213/bd-stinger-vs-petzl-dart

BD Stingers for years. Always liked them. Had a Petzl clinic and was sold on new Darts - sharper monos (and spare front points) and secondary points, better anti-snow plates and don’t laugh - ”covered” front point hardware! Changing front points on the Stinger is a pain in the ass when they get banged up!

If you take the cost of the Petzl bolts out of the picture and consider a job that is 1 to 5 bolts, nozzel costs balance out things. The Petzl bolts are very nice, but I would never buy them. Admittedly the care required in placing bolts with the ampules is extra. But that really applies to all bolting. Each type bolt has its own quirks.

  4. Beartooth Alpine picks - Mountain Project

Seem great and some cool guys running the company but hard to justify the price for a disposable piece of gear when Petzl picks can be had for $36 if you get them off your friends pro deal. They truly need to last 2-3 times as long for it to be worth it imo. Or maybe the performance increase just can't be felt on M6/WI5

Grivel Asxender Descender: this was the first ascender I bought and I got it becausd it was cheep. Turns out, it was cheep because its heavy and clunky. I really should've just spent the extra 20 or 30$ to get a petzl ascender instead. BD alpine draws: I bought these because in a pinch I needed another 6 draws, but they suck.

Just wanted to update. Petzl set me up with a new pair for free if anyone else is having the same problem. That's good to hear! I've wondered about the potential problem for the future and wondered if Petzl would stand behind them or what. it's what these companies should do, it really galvanizes the customer/company relationship in my eyes.

  9. Sportiva TX Guide sizing? - Mountain Project

    www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/119208383/sportiva-tx-guide-sizing

I wear a 44.5 in the Ganda and a 44 in Bushidos. I got both sizes in the Guide. The 44.5 is too big--serious heel-slip, and the 44 is a tad tight, but I am hoping it breaks in a bit.
