The Apple TV is less flexible than the Mac Mini as a music server and is better for streaming online. If you have a local collection of music files, the Mini is the way to go. Don't get hung up about this or that music software - various tests online have shown iTunes to be bit perfect.
I'm doing a clean install on my music-dedicated mini and would like to know what is the latest and greatest of the optimizations I can do. Machine: - mac mini 2012, i7 quad, 16GB RAM, 120GB SSD (Mercury 6G) - External HD over FW - Bridged networking: Thunderbolt/ethernet adapter bridged to intern...

Also, off-the-shelf SSDs do not necessarily improve the sound of audio playback, due to the frequently changing demands on electricity (lots of ...
Each mac is several years old and both were customized and improved to best possible configurations at time of purchase. I use HQPlayer and A+ and most of my music is on external drives. Well, to my ears mac mini gives better sound far beyond comparison. The only downside mac mini has is a need of external monitor for control.
