Each year we rescue thousands of dogs who have been lost, discarded, abandoned, injured, or neglected within in Franklin County. We do everything we can to find a loving and responsible new homes for every adoptable dog or puppy that enters our care.

Welcome to the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center
Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center is committed to saving lives. Our shelter is the largest county shelter in Ohio. Last year we took in 9,819 dogs and puppies, including all stray dogs in the county as well as owner surrenders and unwanted litters of puppies.
The Franklin County Department of Animal Care & Control enforces only dog laws, and has no authority to deal with problems associated with cats running loose. For information concerning lost and found cats, please contact the Columbus Humane at (614) 777-7387.

The Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center partners with the non-profit organization Besa to provide one-time volunteer opportunities to the community. Check out Besa's website for more information on available dates and how to sign up.
The Franklin County Dog Shelter is committed to reducing pet overpopulation in our community. We spay or neuter ALL dogs adopted at our facility prior to adoption, and we strongly encourage you to spay or neuter your own pets. About 3,500 dogs are spayed or neutered annually at the Dog Shelter.
The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center encourages owners to directly re-home their dogs if they can no longer keep them. No one knows your dog as well as you do. Who better than you to determine the best new home for your dog?
