But most cats like it. :lol3: As to heart-healthy foods... basically a wet food only diet that is high protein, low carbohydrate and grain free (unfortunately, grain-free doesn't necessarily mean low carb. ). This happens to be the healthiest diet for a cat anyway. We feed our cats raw food.
HCM by itself isn't painful. If the cat progresses into congestive heart failure (which is reversible for at least a period of time) then the cat will be in discomfort because the fluid build up in the lungs makes it hard to breathe. It's the fluid build up that is essentially the definition of a cat in heart failure.
Heart murmurs are more common on cats, than you would think. A lot of cats just grow out of them. Some never do. There are 2 types. The functional and non-functional ones. I was lucky in that my guy has a functional heart murmur. That means that his heart functions just fine, but has a tiny bit of a 'normal' abnormality...hope you understand that.
Dr Katherine James of the Veterinary Information Network believes that most CKD cats will benefit from subcutaneous therapy once creatinine levels are consistently over 300 -350 (US: 3.5-4). If your vet thinks your cat's CKD is less advanced than this, then it is probably safer to hold off on sub-Qs for the moment;
1. Location. Cincinnati. I'd definitely ask your vet what grade the heart murmur is and see if he/she feels additional testing (xray and echocardiogram) are necessary. If it's a low-grade murmur, and your cat has no other symptoms of an underlying heart condition (lethargy, shortness of breath) your vet may just recommend monitor the murmur.
Hi all, We will be moving from CT to WA in the near future, a 3000 mile trip. We're bringing two dogs and two cats - neither of the dogs is a concern, nor is one of the cats. However, Bubba has a heart murmur, in addition to being ridiculously shy. He is about eight years old, and I don't think the murmur is severe, if I remember correctly.
Murmurs can be caused by a very long list of things, and aren't by definition indicative of heart disease. Especially in growing kittens, they may grow out of it. It can also be caused by stress, just from the vet visit. In Flowerbelle's case, she was nine years old, and a murmur had never been detected before.
32,320. Purraise. 72,442. Location. North Carolina. I do not have a cat with a heart murmur, but in my years here, I have walked that path with a good many people. The first thing to remember is that there are murmurs, and there are MURMURS. And an echo can tell you exactly what you are dealing with, and IF subQ fluids are appropriate.
9. Purraise. 1. Hi, I recently got an adorable kitten who is now 10 weeks old (have had him for 2 weeks). I took him to the vet the day after I got him and was told he has a heart murmur. They haven't told me the great or anything specific, but have said it is reasonably loud. Im absolutely devastated as I'm so attached to him already and can't ...
I can hear my cats heart murmur if I put my head on his chest, it sounds like a "whooshing" noise. Well my cat goes outside and generally runs around the garden and also up one of our trees Your cat sounds as if he is fine, perhaps just make sure you get a yearly checkup and get him to the vets if you notice any great change in his behaviour.
