It was described as site 81 in a 1930 survey by Reinecke, [9] and site 8 in a 1975 survey by Rosendahl & Kirch, [10] and site HA-D15-12 on a state survey. Radium is 16 km north of the tourist town of Invermere, and 105 km south of Golden, British Columbia. It is at the junction of Highway 95 and Highway 93, in the Columbia River valley, between the river and Kootenay National Park. Wildlife in the area includes mule deer, grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
Some artifacts can be viewed in the hotel lobby, including a feather cloak and helmet . The small sandy beach provides a protected beach for launching canoes, and children swimming. The first Hotel was built here in 1950, and the current one constructed in 1975. In 2009, the hotel was renovated, and a museum and cultural center added. [11]
