Pabst began racing in May 1956 on the infield road course of the Milwaukee Mile. [7] [1] His first race car was a Triumph TR3 (he was a Triumph dealer); [2] he switched to a AC Ace-Bristol for 1957. [1] Pabst took class victories in both cars. [1] Pabst moved up to a Ferrari TR in 1958 and won his first national SCCA race at the Milwaukee Mile. [1]
Pabst began his career as a film director at the behest of Carl Froelich who hired Pabst as an assistant director. He directed his first film, The Treasure, in 1923. [2] He developed a talent for "discovering" and developing the talents of actresses, including Greta Garbo, Asta Nielsen, Louise Brooks, and Leni Riefenstahl.
Augie was born into a racing family. His father, Augie Pabst, won the SCCA National Sports Car Championship in the B Modified class in 1960. Pabst started his auto racing career in Sports Car Club of America in 1991. After racing in Formula Ford Pabst started in the Shelby Can-Am class.
Pabst married Best's daughter, Maria, on March 25, 1862. [2] For the next year and a half, Pabst continued to ply the waters of Lake Michigan as a ship's captain, until an accident in December 1863 led to a change in career. While trying to bring his craft into Milwaukee harbor, Pabst's ship ran aground.

During much of the 20th century, Pabst was run by Harris Perlstein, who was named president by Frederick Pabst in 1932 after a merger of Pabst Brewing and Premier Malt Products Co.
