"I.O.U." is a song by British musical group Freeez, released in 1983. The song was written and produced by Arthur Baker and remixed by Jellybean Benitez and Arthur Baker.The song was an international hit, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart and topping the US Billboard Dance/Disco Top 80 chart, giving Freeez their only chart-topping single on any Billboard chart.
Freeez's last and biggest hit (a top 5 hit in many countries worldwide) was the song "IOU", which was written and produced by Arthur Baker with lyric contributions and lead vocals by Rocca and remixed by Jellybean Benitez and Baker. [2] The song was also used for the 1980s breakdancing film Beat Street.
The titular Southern Freeez is attested to derive from a dance move, "The Freeze," used by clubbers in the "Royalty" club, Southgate in the early 1980s. A then-popular song, "The Groove" by Rodney Franklin , has moments where the band drops out for a bar , and a style of freezing movement at these points took hold.
