St Annes-on-the-Sea (also known as St Annes-on-Sea or St Annes) was a 19th-century planned town. St Anne's Church was built as a chapel of ease in 1873, in which year St Annes-on-the-Sea railway station also opened. An official founding ceremony for the town was held on 31 March 1875, when the cornerstone of the St Anne's Hotel was laid. [13]

The route of the former excursion line into Blackpool Central is now used as a link road from the M55 motorway to the town centre. The line into Blackpool via Lytham St Annes now has a station serving Blackpool Pleasure Beach but terminates at Blackpool South station. The line into North station is now the more important.
The armorial bearings comprise a complete Achievement of Arms, that is - shield, crest and helm and mantling, supporters, badge and motto. They reflect the union of the three local authorities in the area: Lytham St Annes Borough Council, Kirkham Urban District Council and Fylde Rural District Council. [7]
The conurbation of Lytham St Annes is served by three stations: Lytham, Ansdell and Fairhaven (adjacent to the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club) and St Annes. Northern runs trains from here to Blackpool South and to Kirkham, Preston and Colne once an hour all week (including Sundays); [1] these services are much less frequent than those to Blackpool North.
Work began on the development of the Promenade and the St Anne's Hotel in February 1875 and the foundation stone of St Anne's on the Sea was laid in the hotel on 31 March of that year. [2] At the ceremony Joseph Whitehead commented "..perhaps many would be surprised at the scheme being taken up by Rossendale people.
