The building was restored in 1978 by Calistoga Depot Associates. That year, Central Pacific Coach No. 12 was moved to the depot to act as tenant space, housing a wine shop for over 30 years. The car was moved to the California State Railroad Museum in 2020 for restoration.
In 1852, when Sam Brannan first saw "Indian Hot Springs", Calistoga's original name, the area was populated with a few early settlers. In 1859, he purchased the 2,000 acres surrounding the Hot Springs and named it Calistoga from joining the words California and Saratoga (New York's world-famous mineral water spa).
The San Francisco, Napa and Calistoga Railway, later briefly reorganized as the San Francisco and Napa Valley Railroad, was an electric interurban railroad in the U.S. state of California. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In conjunction with the Monticello Steamship Company, the railway offered a combined rail- and ferry-service called the "Napa Valley Route."
