The first minister is proposed to have the power to appoint 17 rather than the current 12 ministers, plus the counsel general, to the Welsh Government, and the number of ministers could be increased to 18/19, pending further Senedd approval. Following Mark Drakeford's resignation as First Minister of Wales and Leader of Welsh Labour, Vaughan Gething was elected to succeed him in the February–March 2024 Welsh Labour leadership election. The Welsh organisation worked with the United Nations Association Wales and from 1973, worked with the Welsh Centre for International Affairs. The organisation was based at the Temple of Peace . In 2014, the three organisations merged into the Welsh Centre for International Affairs .
Members of the partnership council are appointed by the Welsh Government and include, Welsh Ministers, Deputy Welsh Ministers and the members of local authorities in Wales which include representatives from each of the 22 principal councils in Wales, community councils, national park authorities, police and crime commissioners, fire authorities and NHS Wales.
