Sheila Cecilia Escovedo [3] (born December 12, 1957), known under the stage name Sheila E., is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actress. Regarded as one of the greatest musicians of her generation; she is known for skills as a multi-instrumentalist, often preferring to play drums or percussion.
American singer-songwriter Sheila E. has released nine studio albums, two collaborative albums, one extended play, and twenty-six singles. In 1977, Escovedo and her father Pete Escovedo released an album called Solo Two, credited to Pete and Sheila Escovedo. Their follow-up album Happy Together was released in 1978 on Fantasy Records.

The song has lyrics which reflect a cynicism for the decadence and materialism of the song's protagonist, referred to in the third person, who "wants to lead a glamorous life", although she is aware that "without love, it ain't much".
