Lier railway station (Dutch: Station Lier; French: Gare de Lierre) [a] is a railway station in Lier, Antwerp, Belgium. [1] The station opened on 23 April 1855 on railway lines 13 and 15. Until 1988, the station was also on line 205, when this line closed. The train services are operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). [2]
NMBS/SNCB is an autonomous government company, formed in 1926 as successor to the Belgian State Railways.From 1942 to 1944, amid Nazi Germany's occupation of Belgium, the company was paid 51 million Belgian francs by the Nazi Germany to send 28 trains carrying 25,843 Jews and Roma people to Auschwitz where only 1,195 survived. NMBS/SNCB Class 41 DMUs are diesel multiple-unit trains operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). They are the standard train for Belgian internal workings which cannot be worked by EMUs. They work under the 25 kV electrification in the South of Belgium as well as on the non-electrified lines in the North.

Class 22 locomotives were part of the 1950s generation of SNCB electric locomotives that included Types 122 (later 22), 123 (later 23), 125, (later 25 and 25.5) and 140 (later 125.100, 25 and 25.5) built between 1953 and 1961. There were 50 Series 122, 83 Series 123, 16 Series 125 and 6 Series 140 for a total of 155 locomotives.
