The Dewees Remschel House is a historic mansion that was originally in Gonzales, Texas, where it was built by Dr. Robert Taggart Knox, sometime in the late 1860s. The house was moved by its owner Claribel Dewees Remschel to her 130-acre ranch near Dewees (at FM 541 and CR 206) in 1983, and was renovated over the next 15 years.
Ángel Navarro (1748–1808) was a leading early Spanish settler and patriarch of San Antonio, Texas. The Navarro family played a prominent role in the Mexican and Texas revolutions. He was born in Corsica in 1748 and settled in Spanish Texas in 1769. Navarro was the seventy-second alcalde (mayor) of San Antonio under Spanish Texas. [1]
In 1846, the Texas Legislature named Navarro County south of Dallas to honor his service. In 1848, Navarro County's seat of government was founded, and José Navarro selected the name, Corsicana, for the town. A state historical marker identifies his Geronimo Creek Ranch in South Texas. Navarro Street in downtown San Antonio is also named for him.
