The Marching Illini is the marching band of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Marching Illini is an organization which annually includes approximately 400 students enrolled in the University of Illinois, and Parkland College. It was founded in 1868 and primarily performs at Illini football games as well as other events around campus.

Beverly Schmidt Blossom (August 28, 1926 – November 1, 2014) was an American modern dancer, choreographer, and teacher.She was an original member and soloist with the Alwin Nikolais Dance Theater, a modern dance choreographer for Illinois Dance Theatre, Blossom & Co. and others, and a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

[1] Soon after she began at Duke University as an artist-in-resident in dance (1982-1993) and later as the director of the Duke in New York arts program (1990-1992). [1]
In 2009, Farnell won the University of Illinois Department of Anthropology Distinguished Service award. She received this award for second time in 2017. [3] In 2005, her work, Talking from the Body in Post-modern Dance, was awarded the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Research Board Award. [1]

In the late 1980s, a flag corps, the Saluki Silks, became the official color guard to the band. Then in 2011, a dance team, the Saluki Dazzlers, became the official dance team of the band. Administered by the SIU School of Music, the Marching Salukis are a music class (MUS 011), and members receive one course credit for participation in the band.
