[1] He is the ex officio Patron-in-Chief of the National Legal Services Authority and the de facto Chancellor of the National Law School of India University. [2] He has also served as a judge at the Delhi High Court.
He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of India on 14 January 2007, by then President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. [7] He retired on 12 May 2010, and has served as the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission since 7 June 2010. [8] Over the course of his Supreme Court tenure, Balakrishnan authored 219 judgments and sat on 787 benches. [9]
Vikram Nath (born 24 September 1962) is a judge of the Supreme Court of India. He is a former chief justice of the Gujarat High Court [1] [2] and former judge of the Allahabad High Court. He was earlier recommended as chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court but the centre disapproved the recommendations. [3]
