    The Bronze Star is an award that is given in a Combat Zone for either VALOR or MERITORIOUS SERVICE. That is why there is a V device to distinguish it. The Marine Corps can and Does award Bronze Stars for Meritorious service, just no where nearly as much as the Army does.

    Bronze Star can only be earned in combat. Now combat can be anything from the guy who kicks down doors and kills bad guys to a shoe clerk at the highest headquarters in country. Usually this is given to E-7's and up. Most people confuse the Bronze Star with the Bronze Star with Valor.
