North of Asheboro it followed Old Liberty Road to Liberty.

The first NC 51 was an original state highway that traveled from NC 20, in Rockingham, to NC 74, in Wadeville. [3] In 1928, Rockingham to Ellerbe became an extension of NC 75 . [ 4 ] In 1934, NC 51 was decommissioned in favor of NC 73 , between Ellerbe and Mount Gilead , and NC 109 , between Mount Gilead and Wadeville.
North Carolina Highway 24 Business (NC 24 Bus) was established in 2018 when mainline NC 24 was rerouted onto new routing bypassing north of Autryville. The 1.7-mile (2.7 km) business route follows the original alignment of NC 24 along Clinton Road, Williams Street, and Autry Highway.
End of NC 138 at US 52. NC 138 is a two-lane rural highway that begins immediately after NC 742 begins in downtown Oakboro. Going east, it crosses over Long Creek, a tributary of the Rocky River, then proceeds northeast to Aquadale. After crossing a railroad track in Aquadale it goes north to end at U.S. Route 52 (US 52) just south of Albemarle.
