Law enforcement rangers will generally carry guns, interpretive rangers generally will not. Generally rangers will patrol separately, but can depend on staffing/agency/park size Well, murders definitely don’t stop just because you’re in a park.
But the original rangers carried guns. If anything, the LE enforcement rangers have a better stake to the title. Which is probably why when you go to parks, the LE get called Rangers, and the other divisions get called interp, maintenance, fees, etc. Edit: it's just another title of LE, like: deputy, officer, marshal. Interp, maintenance, fees ...
I rarely encounter Rangers when I’m in the back country, and when I do they are almost always chill. Only the law enforcement rangers carry guns, and I’ve only ever seen them in high traffic areas like entrances and visitor centers.
Why don’t park rangers carry a gun. I think this is probably the career that needs one the most. Think a rifle or a massive revolver used to fight off incoming bears or cougar. Or maybe even to hunt down escaped convicts in the woods. What just gets me is every time I see the dang park rangers out in the wilderness and whatnot they are just ...

The Arts, Parks, Health, Education and Neighborhoods Committee voted 2-1 to endorse the proposal, with Councilmen Joe Buscaino and John ...

Carrying a gun signifies your first responsibility is to defend, something that at best seems, and in my experience is, a very remote need in our parks. 6. Reply. Eduro • 12 yr. ago. The rangers are the ones asking to be able to carry a gun though and I would assume that they know best what threats they face. 6.
