Costco demands low prices and quality from the suppliers. Their eye exam (at the location I go to) doesn't have the latest/greatest technology. Eye mapping and all that stuff. But, you can get an exam anywhere and get your prescription filled at Costco or other discount online glasses providers.
My last complete pair of glasses, progressive lenses at LensCrafters was $600. I bought a backup pair at Costco which cost $135. $600/$135=4.4. Good price and the lenses were fine but had problems adjusting the frames. Had to resort to the kindness of Lens Crafters to adjust them for me. Recently got an identical pair at Costco: $150.00 and human available to adjust frames. Stellar! Warby Parker will adjust frames for you and the frames + lenses are $95.
The cost is usually about $300-$500 for high index anti-reflective lenses in frames. On the recommendation of a relative, I tried Costco Optical this year for the first time. I found a frame called "Police" and the store sample fit like a glove with a look that suits my face. It's important that I get a snug fit.
The lens from Eyeglass Lens Direct in Sugarland, TX and frames from sellers on Ebay. The reason is more choices in lenses and frames, especially if you want designer frames. Costco no longer allows you to bring your own frame. Eyewear has become a fashion item on the face and how you look is important to most people.

Did you ask if ANOTHER location of Costco might have your frame on display that you could buy? Is another Costco location nearby for you to just drive to and check?
Sister just got new glasses from Costco. They are high-index, progressives, with anti-reflective coating. The frames are full plastic frames. She noticed immediately that there is a significant yellow line, or band, at the top edge of both lenses, which must be color fringing. It is so distracting that she cannot wear them for night driving at all.
I prefer rimless frames, but Costco does not carry those, so I buy ultra light, titanium rimless frames at Eyeglasses123 online for almost half the price charged at the opticians. Costco won't put lenses in rimless frames so I have to pay full price at the opticians. Also, our insurance reimburses a portion of the cost of online frames.
