You will definitely need 16gb if you are planning to keep it for so long. Programs are getting heavier day by day, both the size and the system resource ( mainly RAM ). And even MacOS itself is getting heavier, I have an Pro M1 with 8gb and the ram usage and pressure is always overload.
Get the Air, get 16 GB. If you decide in 2-4 years you want the next new big thing sell the Air, and put the money toward the new thing. Also, speaking specifically about the Air, I think 24gb rarely makes sense. If you need more than 16gb, you probably need more than the Air. Either get the Pro, or just get 16gb.
I actually ran 8GB for a similar setup to this when I only had an M1 Macbook Air. It was quite miserable. I thought 16GB would be enough but it's just barely ok. I always have to think about closing apps to free up more memory. Configuring a custom Macbook with 32GB of RAM could delay shipping by weeks/months.
Reply reply. kindaa_sortaa. •. Gaming does benefit from more RAM (namely 16GB or 32GB) on the higher-performance end, but if you're not one to pay attention to frame rates, 1% and 0.1% lows (for smoothness), and don't play high-res AAA, then 8GB does the job.
16GB RAM to make it work more efficiently when having huge Lightroom Classic catalogs open (3,000+ RAW photos at a time). 512GB storage to have increased file transfer speeds when copying gigabytes of RAW files from SD cards to the internal storage. 512GB storage would also come in handy to use as swap memory when I would have big catalogs at a ...
Necessary, no. Useful, yep. If you have the money and you don’t mind spending extra, go for the 16GB. Is not excessively hard to push the base 8GB to the limits when using multiple apps, 20-30 tabs open, and zoom or google meets while taking notes; and that’s a kind of normal workflow when in School.
The air will have way more than enough power to handle what you need. However, it’s insulting that Apple still has 8GB of ram in their base models that still cost a premium over any 16GB ram PC, then have the audacity to upsell an additional 8GB at an even more astronomical amount compared to high end DDR5 ram. 3. The screen, sound and extra ports makes the pro the better choice for me. The m3 pro chip vs the m3 chip is better performance than the 24gb ram is compared to 18gb ram so I would go with the 18gb m3 pro MacBook Pro. I would not get a base mbp which is an air with a fan. I would get the mbp with pro chip.
This just gives me comfort and relief that I still have room for my RAM without it overflowing into swap memory. I'm sure as my Macbook ages, the RAM usage will become less and less efficient. Therefore, I switched to 16GB RAM. BTW, when I look at the activity monitor with the 8GB Macbook, the graph is still green, but always half way or over ...
Hi, Im looking to buy a new macbook to replace my old intel one. My budget is enough to buy a new m3 macbook air 15’’ with 8gb or a refurbished m2 one (from apple refurbished program) with 16gb. Im a student and wont use the laptop for very heavy tasks, I’ll use it mostly for working on...
