The Champion Ballroom Academy (founded April 1990) is a dance studio in San Diego, California. Its main specialties are social partner-dancing , competitive ballroom dance (aka. Dancesport ) and the Latin-dance -based aerobic program Core Rhythms.
The two began to compete and eventually became the 1990 and 1991 Austrian National Champions. Despite their success, the constant travel and Murphy's domestic commitments took their toll. Murphy had opened the Champion Ballroom Academy in San Diego in 1990 and found it difficult splitting herself between these two obligations.
The annual United States Dance Championships (USDC), previously called the United States Ballroom Championships (USBC) and the United States DanceSport Championships (USDSC), is recognized by the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) and the World Dance & DanceSport Council (WD&DSC) as determining the majority of the United States national professional ballroom dance champions.
Powers's latest endeavor is Core Rhythms, which she co-created with another ballroom champion, Jaana Kunitz.
