Of the choices you mention, I guess I'd pick lavender oil. But baby oil or mineral oil would probably be best. Just make sure that you get the oil in your pouch and not on your stoma -- some of your choices sound like they could be trouble if they get in contact with your skin. My new found friends are a result of recurring cervical cancer. Not sure if I have any sage advice, still trying to adjust and adapt myself.

Also, ostomies tend to produce more gas when your stomach is empty. I keep crackers with me so I can eat a few and keep my stoma from getting too gassy. I'm sure the above 3 methods are fine for some people, just not for me. I'm about 3 1/2 months post op and like you, I hated sounding like a zip lock bag. The SenSura Mio is quiet, the covering repels water to a certain degree, it dries quickly, and I feel it blocks odors better than some other ones I've tried.

I have had my colostomy since 2011 and also have issues with the adhesives. I found bags by a lesser known company, Marlen, work well for me. I do use original Head and Shoulders to wash around the stoma. If you Google, Marlen ostomy supplies, you can see the catalog and request samples. However, they are a bit slow in responding.
Hello Friends, my name is John. I joined the Inspire Team in march of 2013. I must confess, that i have only read some of the comments and journals but this is my first attempt at starting a discussion. My reason for this discussion is to hopefully inform some of my fellow members that there are alternatives to the dreaded colostomy bags.
