Kenneth Stanley Washington (August 31, 1918 – June 24, 1971) was an American professional football player who was the first African-American to sign a contract with a National Football League (NFL) team in the modern (post-World War II) era. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins.
After 1926, all five of the black players that were still in the subsequent National Football League left the league. Several teams were kicked out of the league that year, and with a large number of available, talented white players, black players were generally the first to be removed, never to return again.

George Jewett, 1892. Jewett attended the University of Michigan from 1890 to 1893, where he became the first African American in the school's history to letter in football. [7] [8] In 1890, Jewett was the starting fullback for the Michigan team that went 4–1 and outscored opponents 129–36. [9]
