Drugstore Cowboy is a 1989 American crime drama film directed by the American filmmaker Gus Van Sant. Written by Van Sant and Daniel Yost and based on an autobiographical novel by James Fogle, the film stars Matt Dillon, Kelly Lynch, Heather Graham and William S. Burroughs. It was Van Sant's second film as director.
After several small roles, Lynch was cast in her breakthrough role in the feature film Cocktail (1988). [3] In 1989, Lynch starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the action film Road House , and was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in the crime drama Drugstore Cowboy , directed by Gus Van Sant .
After Drugstore Cowboy, she appeared in Lawrence Kasdan's dark comedy I Love You to Death (1990), alongside William Hurt and Keanu Reeves, and the rock-and-roll coming-of-age film Shout (1991), for which she received a nomination for the Young Artist Award for Best Actress Starring in a Motion Picture.
