Lingo is a community in Macon County, Missouri, 20 miles (32 km) west of the city of Macon. [1] Lingo was platted in 1873. [2] The village was named for an early settler, Samuel Sanders Lingo, who was born August 9, 1805, in South Carolina, and was a prominent figure as county judge in Macon County for 25 years.
Hermitage was founded in 1846. It was named after The Hermitage, [7] the estate of the late president Andrew Jackson in Tennessee. [8] In 1847, it was designated seat of Hickory County, also named for Andrew Jackson, whose nickname was "Old Hickory".
