Monmouthshire (/ ˈ m ɒ n m ə θ ʃ ər, ˈ m ʌ n-,-ʃ ɪər / MON-məth-shər, MUN-, -sheer; Welsh: Sir Fynwy) is a county in the south east of Wales.It borders Powys to the north; the English counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire to the north and east; the Severn Estuary to the south, and Torfaen, Newport and Blaenau Gwent to the west.
The town has one of the two Welsh-medium primary schools in Monmouthshire, Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni, [36] which was founded in the early 1990s. It is also home to the Abergavenny Welsh society, Cymreigyddion y Fenni, [37] and the local Abergavenny Eisteddfod. [38]
Caldicot (Welsh: Cil-y-coed) is a market town and community in Monmouthshire, Wales. The town is located between Chepstow and the city of Newport. The site adjoins the Caldicot Levels, on the north side of the Severn Estuary. The population of the built-up area was around 11,000.
The town also has its own Town Council, comprising 15 councillors elected every four years. The council elects a Town Mayor from among its number each year. The Town Mayor for 2022/23 is Cllr Margaret Griffiths. [24] Chepstow was an electoral ward to Gwent County Council between 1973 and 1996. [25]
