I would try running hot water over the lid until it is warm then try turning the lid. Make sure you are turning it the right way.

    For the most part, using a pressure canner will NOT shorten the total amount of time, because you need to bring it to a boil, then vent for 10 minutes, then let it build pressure (takes 5-10mn) and then hold at pressure for the time needed. Then you leave it sit until pressure drops to zero, often another 30 minutues.
