C.P.O. Sharkey is an American television sitcom, created by Aaron Ruben, that aired on NBC from December 1, 1976, to April 28, 1978. The series starred Don Rickles in the title role, with Peter Isacksen, Elizabeth Allen, Harrison Page, and Richard X. Slattery featured in the cast.

Donald Jay Rickles (May 8, 1926 – April 6, 2017) was an American stand-up comedian and actor. He was known primarily for his insult comedy.His film roles include Run Silent, Run Deep (1958), Enter Laughing (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), and Casino (1995).

Bates became a semi-regular on Rickles' sitcom CPO Sharkey (1976–78) as the love-interest of 6'7" tall Seaman Pruitt (played by actor Peter Isacksen). Bates went on to co-star on Blansky's Beauties (a 1977 spin-off of Happy Days) where she played “Arkansas” a gawky Vegas showgirl.
On the very first episode, Sharkey was celebrating 24 years in the Navy. His friend Robinson often kidded him about being stuck in the past, such as when the Navy was segregated. The show began in 1976, and if Sharkey had been in 24 years, that means he enlisted in 1952. That was four years after the military was desegregated.
