The Supercopa de España, also known as the Spanish Super Cup, is a super cup tournament in Spanish football. Founded in 1982 as a two-team competition, the current version has been contested since 2020 by four teams: the winners and runners-up of the Copa del Rey and La Liga .
The 2024–25 season is the 127th season in the history of Athletic Bilbao, and the club's 94th consecutive season in La Liga.In addition to the domestic league, the club is also participating in the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de España (after winning the 2023–24 Copa del Rey), and the UEFA Europa League (competing in Europe for the first time in seven years).
It was held on 1 February 2025 between the 2024 Copa Ecuador champions El Nacional and the 2024 Ecuadorian Serie A champions LDU Quito at Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda in Quito. [ 1 ] In the match, LDU Quito defeated El Nacional on kicks from the penalty mark following a 0–0 draw to claim their third Supercopa Ecuador title. [ 2 ]
Both the winners and the runners-up will qualify for the four-team 2026 Supercopa de España. Athletic Bilbao were the defending champions, having beaten Mallorca in the final of the previous edition, but were eliminated in the round of 16 by Osasuna.
