The founder of Blenko Glass Company, William John Blenko (1854–1933), learned glassmaking at a bottle works in England. He began working at the plant at the age of 10. [1] Educated as a chemist, he learned to make antique sheet glass that had the look of stained glass windows from Medieval times. [2]
Over the next 25 years, he established glass factories in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia—which all failed. His fourth glass factory, that began production in 1922, was a success and still operates today (2024). This factory is located in Milton, West Virginia, and Blenko family members still lead the company.

I did some original research in 2024-this is why it is not mentioned in the article-by contacting Blenko. Their response was that they are not producing flat glass because of the overwhelming orders for tableware. They currently cannot produce both at once. They hope to return to producing flat glass in the future, but no plans have been made.
