The Beatitudes (/ b i ˈ æ t ɪ tj u d z /) are blessings recounted by Jesus in Matthew 5:3-10 within the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew, and four in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke, followed by four woes which mirror the blessings.
In the Gospel of Luke only, Jesus follows the beatitudes with a set of woes, denouncing the opposite to the blessings as the source of condemnation and punishment. These woes are universal and differ from the woes of the Pharisees. [1]
Luke uses the terms "Jews" and "Israelites" in a way unlike Mark, but like John.
