Ungku Omar Polytechnic was established in 1969 by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, aided by UNESCO. [1] A total of RM24.5 million was allocated by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP).
The JPT is headed by the Director General of Higher Education, YBhg. Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah binti Tapsir. [2] [3] The director general is assisted by two deputies, YBrs. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan [4] whom will oversees the affairs of Private Higher Education Institutions (Private HEIs) while the post for the second is currently vacant.
By 1964, the buildings were complete and were officially opened by Sultan Idris Shah of Perak on January 17, 1965. Since it now only accommodated private universities, KOPERTI was renamed KOPERTIS (Indonesian: Koordinasi Pendidikan Tinggi Swasta, English: Coordination of Private Higher Education Colleges). The Ministry then carried out the cooperation, and fostering of the human resources of private universities through the KOPERTIS. [ 3 ]
