S. R. Butler High School was a four-year public high school that served students in grades 9-12 from Huntsville, Alabama. The school was named after Samuel Riley Butler, a principal, school superintendent, and school founder. [2] It opened in 1951 and closed in 2015.

William Pierce "Bo" Matthews (born November 15, 1951) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes and was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 1974 NFL draft with the second overall pick. [1]

The 1917 building later became the junior high school, with an annex built in 1994–95 occupying the site of the 1908 building. [6] Previously Butler Area Senior High had grades 11-12, while the Intermediate High School had grades 9-10, and the Junior High School 7-8. [7] The junior high, later a middle school, closed in 2022. [8]
