The Chrysler 300 is a full-size car [3] manufactured and marketed by Stellantis North America and its predecessor companies. It was available as a four-door sedan and station wagon in its first generation (model years 2005–2010), and solely as a four-door sedan in its second generation (model years 2011–2023).
This engine family was Chrysler's first 60° V6 engine designed and built in-house for front wheel drive vehicles, and their first V6 not based on a V8. It was designed as a larger, more powerful alternative to the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 in the minivans and debuted in 1989 for the 1990 model year.
Commonly found in the 300, Magnum, Charger, Challenger, WK/WK2/WD Grand Cherokee and Durango (through 2013), Wrangler, and some Dodge Ram pickups. The A580 was last built at Kokomo II in August 2018, and remaining inventory was used in the 2019 - 2020 Dodge Charger Pursuit models.
The engine was developed by Chrysler with input from the Chrysler-Lamborghini team that developed the Chrysler/Lamborghini Formula 1 V12 engine in the early 1990s. [1] Beginning in 2005, these engines were phased out in favor of the new World engine built by the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance joint-venture.
In Europe and Australia, the Magnum was sold as the Chrysler 300 Touring. It was essentially the same as the U.S.-market Magnum, but with the Chrysler 300C's front end and interior, and right-hand-drive for Australia and the U.K. The 300C Touring added an available 3.0 L CRD Turbo Diesel version. The 300C Touring was assembled in Austria.
The 3.5 L engine was expanded to 4.0 L; 241.2 cu in (3,952 cc) for the 2007 Dodge Nitro and Chrysler Pacifica. Like its family members, this is a SOHC engine and was built in Trenton, Michigan . DaimlerChrysler reportedly spent $155 million to expand the Trenton plant to manufacture this engine.
