In July 2012, the conference welcomed Simmons College as an affiliate member to compete in the sport of rowing. In April 2015, the conference office announced it would begin sponsoring football in the 2017 season, with Maine Maritime Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Norwich University as affiliate members. The 2023 BYU Cougars softball team represented Brigham Young University in the 2023 NCAA Division I softball season. Gordon Eakin entered the year as head coach of the Cougars for a 21st consecutive season. 2023 was the tenth and final season for the Cougars as members of the WCC in softball as they joined the Big 12 Conference for the 2024 season.
