Delano is located about 30 miles (48 km) north-northwest of Bakersfield [8] at an elevation of 315 feet (96 m). [1] The population was 51,428 in 2020, down from 53,041 in 2010. It is Kern County's second-largest city after Bakersfield. Agriculture is Delano's major industry.
SR 155 starts in Delano at SR 99. The route travels south on Fremont St. and then turns east onto Garces Hwy. From there, it leaves the city and enters agricultural land. Continuing east, it leaves the farmland just before crossing SR 65 (Porterville Hwy.). From there, it starts a gentle climb into the foothills of the Eastern San Joaquin Valley.

Fifteen campsites, open all year, accommodate RVs or tents. Each site includes a picnic table and a camp stove; flush toilets are nearby.
