Berkeley County School District was founded in 1912 in Moncks Corner, S.C. [3] In 2011 Rodney Thompson became the superintendent. By 2015 he received a criminal indictment on a school bond campaign-related ethics offense, and he was removed from his position.
The first class graduated in 2007. Almost half of the students reportedly attend reputable Virginia schools, such as the University of Virginia, College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, James Madison University, and Virginia Tech, some becoming Echols scholars. Alumni have also attended Ivy League and U.S. military colleges.

Martinsburg High School hosts the Berkeley County School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) WV-071 curriculum. Each year this program instructs over 200 students from all BCS high schools. In 2019 the AFJROTC WV-071 unit earned the highest Headquarters AFJROTC evaluation grade of Exceeds Standards. He served as Governor until 1652 and was reappointed Governor in 1660.
