Bhadreswar / b ə ˈ d r ɛ s w ər / is a city and a municipality of Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. [1] It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).
Hooghly is one of the most economically developed districts in West Bengal. It is the main jute cultivation, jute industry, and jute trade hub in the state. The jute mills are along the banks of the river Hooghly in Tribeni, Bhadreswar, Champdani and Sreerampur.
The Hooghly River (also spelled Hoogli or Hugli) is the westernmost distributary of the Ganges, situated in West Bengal, India. It is known in its upper reaches as the Bhagirathi . The Bhagirathi splits off from the main branch of the Ganges at Giria .

It serves Bhadreswar and surrounding areas. It is 28 km. from Howrah Station. History. East Indian Railway Company started construction of a line out of Howrah for the proposed link with Delhi via Rajmahal and Mirzapur in 1851. The first passenger train in eastern India ran from Howrah to Hooghly on 15 August 1854.
