The High Chaparral is an American Western action-adventure drama television series that aired on NBC from 1967 to 1971, starring Leif Erickson and Cameron Mitchell. The series was made by Xanadu Productions in association with NBC Productions, and was created by David Dortort , who had previously created Bonanza for the network.

The series premiere originally aired as a two-hour TV movie, and was set in the Arizona Territory of America in the 1870s. In part one, Big John Cannon (Leif Erickson) buys Rancho Rivera in Apache country outside the town of Tucson.
The series aired for four seasons. In the same year he was cast in an episode of the western TV series Bonanza as Jud Rikeman.
