The school's name was changed to The Park School in 1973 when the school became a comprehensive. From 2002 to 2003 the school underwent extensive remodelling with a new maths and science building linking the old North and South Buildings, and a new food hall was also built whilst many of the old classrooms were redesigned and refurbished.

Petroc was formerly North Devon College and East Devon College. The institutions merged on 1 August 2008. North Devon College was the nominal survivor of the merger, however that name was deemed unsuitable for the merged college due to its expanded catchment area. [2] The merged college was renamed Petroc in 2009. [3]
In 2018, the University Park campus opened its new $15.4 million Center for Science & Innovation. It was officially dedicated on May 2, 2018. The building is a three-story, 50,000 square feet with 12 science labs, and indoor 3D geology teaching wall, and third floor observation deck, and a "Science HotSpot" Learning Commons.
