The 2024 Indian Premier League (also known as IPL 17 and branded as TATA IPL 2024) was the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. The tournament featured ten teams competing in 74 matches from 22 March to 26 May 2024. It was held across 13 cities in India, with Chennai hosting the opening ceremony and the final as the defending champions.
IPL was established in 2008 [6] and currently consists of ten teams in ten cities across India. The inaugural IPL season was won by Rajasthan Royals . [ 10 ] As of 2024 [update] , there have been seventeen seasons of the IPL tournament.
In November 2024, the tentative dates for the next three seasons were announced with the 2025 edition set to take place from 14 March to 25 May. [ 12 ] [ 13 ] In January 2025, it was announced that the 2025 season will commence on 21 March to keep a two-week gap from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final scheduled to take place on 9 March.
