It is positioned approximately 40 kilometers west of Calatagan, Batangas , or 117 kilometers southwest of Manila .
On June 13, 1950, the government approved Republic Act 505 dividing Mindoro into two new provinces: Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro. The new province of Occidental Mindoro comprised the municipalities of Abra de Ilog, Looc, Lubang, Mamburao (now the capital of Occidental Mindoro), Paluan, Sablayan, San José and Santa Cruz.

Lubang Airport (Filipino: Paliparan ng Lubang; IATA: LBX, ICAO: RPLU) is an airport that serves the general area of Lubang Island, located in the province of Occidental Mindoro in the Philippines. It is the only airport on the island but is one of three airports in the province.
The island is the north-westernmost of the Lubang Group of Islands in the Verde Island Passage southwest of the country's main island of Luzon and northwest of the island of Mindoro. The barangay is administered as part of the municipality of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro. [2]
