For the first time in the compact segment, the Ranger offered a stepside-style bed with the Ranger Splash. For the 1994 model year, Ford commenced production of the Ranger for Mazda, who began to sell the model line as the B-Series pickup truck (effectively in reverse of the 1972–1982 agreement that produced the Ford Courier).
Ford Ranger (P703), produced since 2022 based on the T6 platform. The Ford Ranger is a compact or mid-size pickup marketed globally by Ford over a series of generations, varying between both in-house or outside development and manufacturing — and with a hiatus in North America from 2011–2018.
Some had the same Mitsubishi manual transmission as the 2.0/2.3 but had different bellhousings. The 2.3, 2.8, and 2.9 also made it into the Ranger, and Bronco II. 4.0L was produced by Ford Cologne Germany (like the unrelated and the all-new metric Taurus/Sable FWD 3.0 V6). Both were put in the North American Ranger, Aerostar, Explorer platforms.
Shifting from Hiroshima, Japan, the B-Series was produced alongside the Ranger in St. Paul, Minnesota in the Ford Twin Cities Assembly facility. The B-Series was the second Mazda light truck produced by Ford, following the 1991-1994 Mazda Navajo (a three-door Ford Explorer).

In 1989, with the help of Roush Racing, Ford Truck Public Affairs created a one-off Ford Ranger, dubbed the "SHO Ranger", with a 3.0 L (2,986 cc) SHO V6 and a Mustang GT's T-5 manual transmission. According to D.A. "Woody" Haines, assistant manager of that division, they commissioned the project truck "to test the market."
