The Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) was established in 1948 as the Dhaka Art School. [1] It was the first art school in the region and became the main centre of art and cultural practice. Since 1956 it has been situated in Shahbag , Dhaka , close to the Bangladesh National Museum .

Zaman was born in 1953 in Chandpur of the then East Bengal in Pakistan (now Bangladesh). [4] She graduated in fine arts from the Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts (now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka) in 1974 and received her post graduation degree in the same subject from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India in 1978.

Muzharul Islam began his career by designing two buildings in the Shahbag area in 1955 – Dhaka University Library and College of Arts and Crafts. [7] Between 1958 and 1964, Islam was an architect in C&B Dept of the Government of East Pakistan .
Baseer enrolled in Dacca Art College (now the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka) in 1949. After graduating in 1954, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence from 1956 to 1958. He also studied mosaic and etching at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris from 1971 to 1973. [7] [8]
